Research Interest

Since 2014, my research has been focused on comparative morphology of subterranean beetles, a mysterious group dwelling in extreme environments. I have learned how to generate, process and analyze 2D and 3D data, which can provide detailed information and also often new insights of morphological evolution. Moreover, I am willing to keep updating my methodological knowledge to improve the assessment of evolutionary transformation on the phenotypic level.

Research Topics

  • Subterranean evolution
  • Insect morphology (mainly Coleoptera)

Research Methods

  • Micro-CT, histological section and three-dimensional reconstruction
  • Light microscope, SEM

3D reconstructions of mandibular and maxillary muscles of Sinaphaenops wangorum (left) and Trechiotes perroti (right).
