Contents The module covers concepts and principles of modern organic synthesis and supramolecular chemistry. Additionally, the extension of the basics in organic chemistry related to research trends in the field of bioscience and nanotechnology (partly based on current original papers and reviews) will be covered. In the practical course, students will be working on a subproject of an ongoing research project in the research groups. They will additionally present their project work in the summer term. The practical course will be focused on deepening of essential techniques and methods in preparative organic chemistry. These methods cover amongst others modern efficient synthesis methods, ligation methods ("click chemistry"), drug synthesis, peptide chemistry, organometallic complexes for diagnostics and therapy, synthesis and characterization of dyes and dye conjugates for diagnostics and microscopy, molecular sensors, noncovalent binding systems, encapsulation processes for active ingredients, transfection reagents and advanced characterization methods for complex organic compounds. (Selection of topics depends on availability and individual agreement).
Learning and qualification objectives Deepening of the basic knowledge in the field of organic chemistry and practical application of methods to solve scientific problems.
Requirements for admission to module exam Regular attendance at the seminar and practical course (details will be announced in the beginning of the course).
Requirements for the award of credit points; exams (weighting of grades in %) Protocol on practical course (30%)
Oral presentation in seminar (70%)
