Contents

The module comprises the following topics: molecular and cellular basics of stem cell biology and aging of cells and organs, as well as genetic and eigenetic basics of cellular plasticity in the immune and nervous system. On the basis of selected literature, normal and pathological mechanisms are discussed and a scientific topic is investigated independently under supervision. Each student participates in two seminars of choice from the areas of stem cell biology, aging, plasticity in the nervous or immune system; actively participating with a talk and discussion. A practical course in a contributing lab completes the module.

Learning and qualification objectives

The aim of the module is to obtain an overview of specific cellular mechanisms enabling the plasticity, degeneration and regeneration of cells and organs, as well as an understanding of pathways of deregulation and their effects on the whole organism. We aim at acquisition of validated, reliable results and placement into a general scientific content. For these goals, regular participation in seminar and practical course is required.
